Horse found missing for eight years

Mongo horse disappeared without a trace in March 2014 in Utah, USA, when the owners were on a business trip. The horse went after the Mustangs (a breed of horse) and showed no signs of life for eight years until it was found in September and left the owner delighted and shocked at the same time, according to Fox News.

“This doesn’t feel real! It still doesn’t feel real that he’s back,” said Shane Adams, the owner of the horse, quoted by the TV channel.

In eight years, the owner of the horse has undergone major changes, and all of them are not easy. He got divorced, lost his home, underwent high-risk brain surgery, and during these more difficult moments, Mongo, his friend and life partner, was not by his side.

The search lasted three years

For three years after his disappearance, Shane went every weekend with his father in search of a horse. The man grew up training and riding horses. Mongo was the favorite and Shane had a special relationship with him. “He has always been a part of my life,” Shane adds during the emotional reunion.

The prospect of finding a horse disappeared in 2017. The family stopped searching and assumed the animal had died.

Message after eight years

On September 27 of this year, Shane received a Facebook message from a Utah Lands Administration worker saying they had found a horse. The office has been aware of the Mongo case since 2014. When they found a horse with the same characteristics, they remembered the neglect.

When Mongo was found, he did not resist capture. According to an equine expert, this is “a sure sign that the animal is a pet.” When they saw the mark they had, they were able to identify it as a horse that disappeared eight years ago. During the absence, the horse lost 400 kilograms.

New life

“Finding Mongo was the best thing that happened to me in the last two years,” Shane explains in an interview with Fox. Returning the horse to everyday life, Shane realized that Mongo had not forgotten what he had taught him.

Scott, Shane’s father, died in August and never saw Mongo again. “I would really like my father to be here to enjoy this beautiful moment, as he always accompanied me to find him.”

For now, Shane and her children, Anna and Owen, ages eight and eleven, enjoy Mongo’s presence in their daily lives.
