The search for a 25-year-old man who went missing in the north of Madeira after falling overboard on Saturday evening has resumed this Monday at 7:00 a.m. with increased resources, the captain of the port of Funchal said.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, Rui Teixeira said that 51 people are involved in operations today, while on Sunday there were about 35.
In addition to the three ships belonging to the Navy, Estação Salva-Vidas do Funchal and SANAS – Associação Madeirense para o Socorro no Mar, a GNR vessel is participating in the maritime search.
On land, there are four army teams – two more than on Sunday – and a GNR team, the Funchal Harbor Master added.
A Portuguese Air Force helicopter is also on site, as is a group of drones from the Madeira Operational Command.
Rui Teixeira also emphasized that the search area on land is 12 kilometers, and at sea – 450 square kilometers.
The notice of disappearance came on Saturday evening. A man was fishing on the old San Jorge pier in the municipality of Santana (north of the island) with a friend when he fell overboard and disappeared.
The searches began on Saturday evening, lasted until 02:00 Sunday and resumed at 07:00, interrupted at 19:30.
