A 27-year-old woman was arrested “at the scene of the crime” after she allegedly cut the electronic bracelet she was wearing and fled to Lagoa, on the island of Sao Miguel, in the Azores. Tuesday.
According to a press release from the PSP Azores Regional Command, the woman was arrested after “a warning issued by the Regional Directorate for Reintegration and Prison Services”, realizing that the defendant had cut the electronic bracelet and initiated “Escape to the unit indefinitely”.
The woman was subjected to a coercive measure in the form of a mandatory presence in a house with technical means of remote control, as she “was severely accused of committing various crimes related to violent and serious crime, namely crimes against property,” according to the PSP.
The suspect was apprehended in less than three hours in the parish of Agua de Pau.
“The detainee, after a second appearance in the judicial court of Ponta Delgada, was convicted and sentenced in summary proceedings to five months in prison with a one-year suspension of execution,” the police said.
The Regional Directorate of the PSP encourages the population, when they become aware of violations of the regime of detention at home, to immediately contact any police department.
