Hundreds of people came out of Largo Camões in Lisbon chanting “People deserve + SNS” towards the Assembly of the Republic in a demonstration called by a movement that intends to provoke civil shock in defense of access to healthcare.
It was just after 4:00 p.m. when hundreds of people gathered in Camões Square headed towards Parliament, an hour after the start of the meeting, which brought together users, medical professionals, organizers and supporters of the +SNS movement.
In the center of the square, on the roof of an open-box van, there were performances and musical moments that ended with endocrinologist Isabel do Carmo critiquing the political discourse regarding the National Health Service (SNS) centered on the word management – “what do we need to take out of this equation” – and express the conviction that “the SNA can be saved.”
Hundreds of people are listening, holding pro-social media placards, identifying user associations and leagues of friends of healthcare facilities, arriving in some cases from the north of the country.
Improvised cardboard posters featured phrases and slogans such as “Social media belongs to everyone”, “Stop selling social media”, “Save Social media” or “Health is a right”.
Under the sounds of drums and slogans in unison, the rise to the parliament was begun.
The +SNS movement, which includes people from different political backgrounds and professional backgrounds, wants this Saturday’s demonstration to be a “wake-up call” to strengthen the National Health Service, whose access it says is “severely compromised.”
