A man in his 70s suffocated while having a snack Wednesday afternoon in Santa Eulalia, Vizela.
According to Paulo Felix, commander of the Wisela Volunteer Firefighters mobilized for the rescue, the man was working on a tractor on the farm and the incident happened when he stopped for a bite to eat with other workers.
According to the same source, when rescuers arrived, the victim went into cardiac and respiratory arrest after ingesting food that blocked his airways. The tractor driver was still the object of resuscitation, but in the end, he was pronounced dead on the spot.
In addition to the firefighters from Wisela, the Ambulance and Resuscitation Team (VMER) from Guimarães and GNR were also on site and dealt with the incident.
The body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Guimarães.
The alarm was announced at 17:45.
