A fishing boat with 12 people on board sank on the night of this Friday, June 16, off the coast of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, in the south of the country. Until the end of the morning of this Saturday, the 17th, no one from the crew was found, not even any trace of the ship.
The place where the shipwreck probably occurred, according to the latest indications of location equipment, is 45 minutes from the city of Garopaba, as well as from Florianopolis, the capital of Santa Catarina. The fishing boat’s disappearance warning was issued around 9 pm local time this Friday, at 1 am this Saturday in Lisbon, after the vessel disappeared from radar but no distress signal was received from its passengers.
The Navy sent a boat to the region on Friday evening, as well as a plane at dawn this Saturday, and asked for help from all vessels passing through the wreck area to report any possible signs of a fishing vessel or its crew. At the time of the disappearance of the fishing boat, the sea was very rough due to a cyclone that hit the neighboring state of Rio Grande do Sul with 200 km of wind and heavy rain, and also hit, albeit with less intensity, the state of Santa Catarina , causing high waves, heavy rainfall and the lowest temperature of the year.
