Elderly people were evicted from their homes after part of a building collapsed in Valpazos.

Twenty-four elderly people were removed this Thursday from a home in Santiago da Ribeira de Alaris, in the municipality of Valpasos, after part of the structure failed, sources from local firefighters and Santa Casa da Misericordia told Lusa.

The Carracedo Montenegrin Fire Commander in the Vila Real area explained to Luce that part of the building had collapsed by the end of the day today and that there were no safety conditions in the building.

As a result of the incident, no one was injured, and the elderly are being sent to other structures, Joao Souza added.

Supplier Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Valpaços told Lusa that a total of 24 elderly people were removed.

Altamiro Claro also stressed that the elderly are distributed by the various structures of Santa Casa da Misericordia de Valpazos.
