French cyclist Victor Lafay (Cofidis) won this Sunday in San Sebastian after attacking in the last meters of the second stage of the 110th Tour of France, which continues to lead Briton Adam Yates (UAE, Emirates).
Lafay, 27, surprised with an attack already in the last kilometer of the 208.9km stretch between Vitória and San Sebastian to take his first Tour victory by relegating Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), a big favorite to win this Sunday round , in second place, and Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) in third place with the same time of 04:46.39 as the winner.
Thanks to the bonuses added this Sunday, Pogacar moves up to second place overall, six seconds behind teammate Adam Yates – the same lead as the UAE’s British rider is behind his twin brother Simon (Jeiko AlUla) which is currently in third place.
On Monday, the 110th leg of the Tour finally arrives in France, while the third leg connects Amorebieta-Echano, still in the Spanish Basque Country, with Bayonne, just 193.5km.
