Brazilian winger Lucas Azevedo, who played for Recreativa do Bairro da Boa Esperança of the 2nd division, died early on Monday morning at the age of 21 after being the victim of a car accident in Rio de Janeiro. According to ‘Globo’, the tragic accident occurred in Benfica, in the north of the Brazilian city, after Lucas Azevedo lost control and crashed into a pole. There were three other passengers in the car who were injured.
Lucas Azevedo was an influential link in Albicatrense’s superb 3rd Division campaign, crowned with promotion and the national title. The player has extended his contract with Boa Esperanza for the 2023/24 season before going on holiday to Brazil.
The death of the player caused “deep horror” in the entire structure of the Castelo Branco club. “All the moments that we experienced together with you, we will keep close to our hearts. We will never forget you, Lucas Azevedo,” a heartfelt message published in the club’s communication space.
