Gabriela Anelli, a 23-year-old Palmeiras fan who was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit in the neck with a glass bottle during clashes between Verdão and Flamengo supporters this Sunday, died on Monday. This was reported by the girl’s family in social networks.
“Thank you to everyone who prayed for my sister, but she went to live in heaven. Things are happening that are beyond our understanding. I know how hard you fought every second, you have always been a warrior. Watch us in heaven and protect our family,” can be read in a message left by Felipe Marciano, Gabriela’s brother.
According to Globo Esporte, Gabriela suffered cardiac arrest twice after being hit in the neck by a glass bottle while queuing to enter Allianz Parque, Palmeiras’ stadium. By then, there was confusion between supporters of both teams, forcing the police to intervene with pepper spray.
Palmeiras had already publicly mourned the young woman’s death.
