Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira will continue his career at Palmeiras after recently becoming a two-time Brazilian champion, dispelling doubts over his continuation at the Sao Paulo club.
Abel Ferreira met Palmeiras president Leila Pereira on Friday to review the goals achieved this year, including winning three titles in five competitions, and to discuss planning for next season, the Sao Paulo club said.
According to information published by Palmeiras on the social network X, the Portuguese coach has “confirmed” that he has a contract with the club until December 2024.
Planning for 2024, Verdan reports, has been underway “for several months” under the guidance of a technical team led by Abel Ferreira.
The Portuguese coach won his second Brazilian championship last Wednesday, having won nine titles in almost four years in charge of the Sao Paulo team.
With Palmeiras, Abel Ferreira won the Campeonato Paulista (2022 and 2023), the Copa do Brasil (2020), two consecutive Copa Libertadores (2020 and 2021), the Supertaça Sul-Americana (2022), the Supertaça do Brasil (2022 and 2023). 2023) and two leagues.
In recent days, local and some foreign media have named the Portuguese coach as a possible candidate for various clubs in 2024, such as Al-Sadd from Qatar. “I think I’ll stay,” Abel Ferreira told reporters without further explanation before receiving the 2023 Brazilian league coach of the year award on Thursday.
The Portuguese coach said at the time that in recent years he had always made decisions about himself and what would be best for his career, but never about what would be best for his family, leaving some doubts about his succession.
