The Public Security Police (PSP) announced this Friday the arrest at the scene of a 53-year-old man suspected of domestic violence against his former partner in Pombal.
The man was arrested on Wednesday, according to a statement from Leiria County PSP Command.
“At the moment when the suspect was threatening and insulting the 47-year-old victim, going towards her to attack her, the prompt intervention of the police and a civilian witness present at the scene prevented the aggression by being immediately arrested and handcuffed,” the same statement says. .
Coercive measures were applied to the defendant, who was present at the first judicial interrogation, forbidding contact and approach to the victim.
A PSP source told Lusa that the suspect “has a previous conviction for the same offense” and that “the victim has filed a complaint before.”
In a statement, the PSP stressed “ongoing efforts to combat this criminal phenomenon,” domestic violence, and called on citizens to cooperate to “better fight crime, culminating in the arrest of its perpetrators.”
