Ana Figueiredo, Executive President (CEO) of Altice Portugal, in a letter to employees, defends that the owner of Meo should focus on his work, continue to fulfill the business plan and improve his performance.
“Altice Portugal is known to have been one of the companies attacked by the Portuguese authorities, in accordance with a warrant issued by the State Ministry, as part of an investigation directed against individuals and entities outside of our group,” he begins by saying Ana Figueiredo in the message, sent this afternoon, which Luza had access to.
“From the very first moment, driven by the transparency that has always guided Altice Portugal, we have provided the authorities with all the assistance”, and “in addition to this response to the request of the authorities, the Altice group has already launched an internal investigation related to the purchase processes and the processes of acquiring and selling real estate for Altice Portugal, as well as for the entire Altice Group,” continues the CEO, who took office last April.
This Monday, Group co-CEO Alexander Fonseca “announced the decision to suspend all of his functions in the executive and non-executive activities of managing the Group’s business in various regions, including the positions of “chairman” in several branches,” recalls Ana Figueiredo.
The CEO states that “this is a decision that the Altice Group accepts and appreciates as it helps protect its business activities and helps protect the principles of transparency and unequivocal cooperation in investigating the facts.”
“We will not deviate from yesterday and tomorrow we will focus on serving our customers, providing excellent service and continuing to lead the Portuguese market by being the most innovative company in Portugal. In short, to do what we can do better,” defends the executive branch.
Therefore, “we must focus on our work, continue to fulfill our business plan and improve our performance,” he stressed.
“Following various meetings organized across the country and culminating last week in Lisbon, “I am sure that I count on you and your energy in this mission,” emphasizes Ana Figueiredo.
“I am confident that together we will lead the future,” she concluded, thanking her employees.
“Operation Picoas”, launched on July 13, resulted in the arrest of three people, including Altice group co-founder Armando Pereira, and about 90 searches at home and outside, including at the Altice Portugal headquarters in Lisbon and the installation of companies and offices in various parts of the country, according to the Central Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DCIAP) of the Ministry of State (MP).
It was a joint action of the deputy and the Tax Administration (NA).
Allegedly at stake are “mistakes in the Altice group’s decision-making process in terms of hiring, harmful practices of the group’s companies and competition”, pointing to active and passive private corruption.
The authorities believe that at the tax level, the state was deceived in the amount of “more than 100 million euros.”
On June 2, 2015, Altice completed the purchase of PT Portugal.
