A source from the Western Sub-Regional Command told the Agência Lusa news agency that five fires that were active in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha in the district of Leiria mobilized 173 firefighters and the air force at 20:00.
The bush fire in Aguas Santas, at one of the entrances to the city of Caldas da Rainha, was the one for which “more resources were allocated” with 95 operators, 26 ground resources and an air resource fighting the flames after “Some operations were redirected to other events.
The first of the fires to break out in Quinta dos Bugalhos involved 12 operators supported by three vehicles.
A fire also broke out at Casais da Serralheira in Coto district, where 21 firefighters and six vehicles were present.
In Espineira, Serra do Boro district, 30 operators and nine vehicles fought the fire, which had been raging since 18:40.
The last recorded fire started at 19:20 in the city of Torre in the district of Salir de Matos, and was attended by 32 firefighters supported by seven vehicles.
