The Revenue and Customs (AT) alerted this Thursday to the existence of a new fraudulent email sent out on its behalf about alleged inconsistencies in an IRS return, asking taxpayers to ignore and delete it.
“Customs is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails believed to be from AT regarding a possible income tax return asking them to click on a link,” reads a statement posted on the financial portal.
As in previous situations, AT warns that these are “false” messages and that they “should be ignored” as they only have the purpose of “persuading the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on suggested links”, which the taxpayer should never do.
Among the fraudulent emails circulating, AT cites as an example one that comes from the name of “CFO Jorge Mauro Duarte”, which “informs” the taxpayer that “a difference was found in the Model 3 return.” , then a malicious link is displayed, which the author is invited to use.
This is the seventh email fraud alert that AT has launched since the beginning of this year. Last year there were 10 such warnings.
