Three men were arrested in Lisbon on suspicion of kidnapping and attempted extortion from a 57-year-old foreigner.
According to the Judicial Police, the trio “under the guise of a loan recovery company” lured and kidnapped the victim at gunpoint and forced her to pay the company’s debt for exploration and processing of natural stones.
The investigation, launched in February 2022, also identified the head of the company that intended to collect the debt. The accused manager hired the detainees and promised them a “significant percentage” of the amount to be recovered from the victim.
Two detainees appeared for judicial interrogation, who were ordered to report to the authorities on a weekly basis and to forbid contacts. The third was eventually taken to the Caldas da Rainha prison to serve a sentence of 3 years and 4 months in prison, which he had been sentenced to in another case for crimes of breach of trust and forgery of documents.
