Russia warned on Saturday that those responsible for the death on Saturday of war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev, who worked for the official RIA Novosti agency, in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region on Saturday, would face “deserved punishment.”
“Those responsible for the brutal massacre of a Russian journalist will inevitably suffer a well-deserved punishment,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zayarova.
The diplomat emphasized that “those who provided cluster bombs to their henchmen in Kiev are also responsible,” and said that journalists were collecting material about alleged attacks by Ukrainian troops on several cities in Zaporozhye using cluster bombs, “weapons banned in many countries.”
The West “only pays lip service to the safety of journalists, while in reality they are sponsors of terrorists,” he insisted.
Zhuravlev, who turned 34 this week, died from injuries sustained in an attack on the car he was traveling in in Zaporozhye.
A photographer, a cameraman and another journalist were also injured, who, according to the Russian authorities, received medical assistance in the field hospitals of the Russian army.
