The statue of D. Dinis, which was accidentally knocked over two weeks ago in Orik, has undergone a “structural repair” and is now back in the city center.
The cause of the fall of the pedestal was the builder. The car he was driving crashed into a structure. The work, which is almost 50 years old, had “cracks at the level of the neck” after the collision.
“New spikes and new mortar were installed to fix the stone base. The finishing line of the connection between the statue and the base was filled with pigmented plaster. Cracks at neck level were repaired and abrasions caused by the fall were also retouched,” explains Camara de Urique.
The bronze statue is considered one of the most important of Lagoa Henriquez’s career.
