A jury in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina in the south of the country has sentenced a man to 329 years and four months in prison for breaking into a kindergarten in the state’s hinterland city of Saudades in May 2021. and killed five people. The defense tried to claim mental insanity, but the jury did not accept this version and remained in the position of the prosecution, according to which Fabiano Kipper May, who is now 20 years old, knew perfectly well what he was doing and planned the bloody attack in advance.
Following the jury’s decision, Judge Kayo Lemgruber Taborda found Fabiano guilty of five qualified murders and 14 attempted murders. These attempts allude to the children and bystanders who locked themselves in a room in the nursery and where the killer tried to break in but failed.
On May 4, 2021, Fabiano calmly arrived at Aquarela Kindergarten in Saudades, a small and peaceful town in the hinterland of Santa Catarina, and suddenly jumped over a low wall, wielded a dagger, and started beating the children. and monitors., which were in the yard at recess.
Three children between the ages of one and three died, as well as a teacher and another kindergarten worker who opposed the killer to protect the babies, preventing an even bigger murder. Seeing that he would not be able to continue the massacre, Fabiano tried to commit suicide with a dagger and was seriously wounded, but was taken to the city hospital and recovered.
The reasons that prompted the 18-year-old boy to commit this crazy act are still unclear. His family never had problems in a city where almost everyone knows each other, and he was working in a quiet fabric store at the time and did not show any aggression.
Despite this, according to the Santa Catarina police, Fabiano planned to carry out a much larger murder over the course of 10 months. The investigation established that he intended to invade a large school with firearms and kill as many people as possible, but, not knowing where to get these weapons, he decided to attack with a dagger.
