The fire in Odemir, thought to have been brought under control on Wednesday, resumed early Sunday morning with more than 140 firefighters involved, supported by 44 vehicles and four aircraft, Civil Protection said.
A source from the Alentejo Litoral Sub-Regional Office of Emergency and Civil Protection told Lusa that the fire alarm in the countryside was raised at 2:49 pm.
In contact with Lusa, the mayor of Odemira, Elder Guerreiro, explained that the revival took place in the area between Delfeira and Relva Grande, in the parish of Sao Teotoniou, in this municipality of Alentejo.
The resumption of the Odemir fire on Sunday afternoon was mastered and funds on site are now cooling the hot areas, the Alentejo Litoral Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command said.
“At the moment, reactivation has been mastered,” a source in the Sub-Regional Command told the Lusa news agency around 17:20.
According to the same source, work is now underway to consolidate.
The fire, which started on the 5th and was deemed contained at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, remained under surveillance.
A rural fire in an area of bush and pine forest broke out in the area of Baiona, in the parish of Sant Teotoniou, municipality of Odemira, in the middle of the day on the 5th and penetrated the Algarve municipalities of Monchique and Aljezur.
The area of ignition is about 8400 hectares in a perimeter of 50 kilometers.
