The General Commander of the Military Police (Public Security) of Brasilia, Colonel Klepter Rosa Gonçalves, was arrested at dawn this Friday in the Brazilian capital. The colonel, the highest ranking officer in the Brazilian police force, and six other officers of the corporation were arrested by the federal police with the authorization of Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) following a request from the public prosecutor. General Office (OPA).
Seven officers (five colonels, a major and a lieutenant) from the high command of the police in the city-state of Brasilia are accused by the PGR of deliberate inaction and collusion with the ultra-radical followers of Jair Bolsonaro, who on January 8 of this year they marched on the federal capital, invaded and destroyed the Congress, the Supreme Court and the Planalto Palace, headquarters of the President of the Republic.
According to Deputy Attorney General Carlos Frederico, these and other already arrested officers, who already held command positions in January, were associated with the coup ideas of Jair Bolsonaro, who never reconciled himself to the defeat in the presidential election last October by Lule. da Silva, and deliberately allowed extremist Bolsonaros to invade the legislature, executive and judiciary in order to force the intervention of the Armed Forces, which would allow Jair Bolsonaro to return to power, ushering in a new dictatorship supported by the military.
In an extensive nearly 200 page report sent to Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the prosecutor reproduces messages from the officers arrested this Friday in support of Bolsonaro’s dictatorial ideas, calling the new president Lula da Silva a “thief” and a “tramp” and promoting that they would not allow him to remain in the presidency.
In cell phone messages that were erased by those involved but recovered by the federal police with state-of-the-art technology, officials from the Brasília military police high command were taunted and appeared to be having fun while ultra-radical Bolsonarists were destroying public buildings. Other documents obtained by the Attorney General’s Office, which served as the basis for the issuance of arrest warrants this Friday, show that the Military Police were assigned to guard the capital of the country on the day when a march of far-right radicals, about 200 agents, was planned. when employees considered it necessary the day when it was already known that there could be attacks on institutions, there were at least 2000.
In addition, the report indicates that most of the agents called in to try to stop the extremist march were police officers who had not yet completed their training and had no experience, some of whom were attacked by radicals and seriously injured.
