Pregnant women were welcomed and forbidden to enter social networks: all about two women who tried to buy a child in Braga

Two women, one Portuguese and one Brazilian, aged 34 and 38, were detained by the Judicial Police (SP) on suspicion of human trafficking in Braga.

The detainees were present at the Guimarães court this Friday and were released. They are subject to periodic presentation to the authorities, contacts with the baby and the mother of the child are prohibited. The detained Brazilian citizen will also have to surrender her passport.

The couple, faced with the inability to have children, planned a scheme in which they took advantage of the pregnancy of a woman they welcomed home to register the child in their name after the birth.

According to the SP, the women took advantage of the fact that the pregnant woman was not a Portuguese citizen, was unemployed, did not know who the child’s parent was, and yet had great economic needs to put the plan into practice.

Sheltered, fed, paid the costs associated with pregnancy, forbade going to consultations in the NHS so that there would be no record of the child in the database. The couple also gave the pregnant woman a small monthly amount.

One of the goals of the plan was that when a woman was hospitalized for the birth of a child, she would be undocumented so that she could not reveal her identity and immediately give the names of the people who would be the parents of the newborn in the future.

“After the birth that took place on June 19 in the SNA hospital, the mother decided to break the agreement and keep the child for herself, since the said couple threatened and forced her to comply with the agreement,” one can read in the report.

After it became known two months ago, the Portuguese went to live in Germany, having been arrested this Thursday on her return to Portugal.
