A judge at the Lisbon Criminal Court has ordered preventive detention for one of the owners of the import-export company Batalha, which, according to the Public Ministry, organised the import that resulted in the seizure of 6.5 tons of cocaine (worth 195 million euros), as part of Operation Tartaro, carried out by the Judicial Police.
The man’s nephew, a managing partner in the same company, and a driver who investigators say worked with the two men were released with identification and registration documents. According to the judge who conducted the interrogations, only the defendant, who was in pretrial detention, was considered strictly accused of involvement in four mega-drug deals uncovered by investigators.
