Education Minister João Costa said at a press conference, at the same time as the release of the lists of teachers, that this year, out of the total number of appointed teachers, 64% are full-time teachers, which is higher than the previous figure. last year, when 56% of teachers were recruited at this stage.
To be specific, out of 13,487 timetables requested, 12,814 have already been filled. This year, according to Joao Costa, there were 386 more graphics requested than last year.
According to the minister, the schedules to be completed are concentrated mainly in the southern region, with a focus on the Lisbon region and the Setúbal peninsula.
According to him, the biggest shortcomings are observed in information technology, physical chemistry, geography, biology and geology.
“By the start of classes, we already have two recruitment reserves, we still have about 20,800 teachers available for employment, and we will have a third recruitment reserve, which will start working in the week ending September 15,” the minister said, adding that measures taken to expedite the recruitment of replacement teachers remain in place.
“This means that already at this point, when there is no candidate for a certain position, schools can start to simplify the procedures for hiring a school, which proved to be very effective last year,” he added.
João Costa assured that the “unprecedented recruitment” will continue, and recalled that more teachers came to work this year.
Answering a question about the delay in the release of the calendar, the minister said that compared to previous years, it could have been moved to August 15, but this year it was not possible due to a delay in the publication and publication of the calendar. tender diploma, thereby achieving it, if you still recover.
