The President of Guinea-Bissau, Oumaro Sissoko Embalo, stressed this Sunday at the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) summit the importance of youth, which he identified as “the only true bearer of the future”.
Referring to the theme of the summit “Youth and sustainable development”, Sissoko Embalo said that “there is no such sustainable development that would stand the test of time as a human endeavor, if it did not have the support and even more so, allocations from the youth themselves, because that she is the only true bearer of the future.”
Highlighting how young the age structure of Guinea-Bissau is, where, as he clarified, “20% of the population is concentrated in the age group from 15 to 24 years old, and from 15 to 30 years old it reaches almost 29%. From 15 to 34 years. years, increases to 34% of the population of Guinea,” the head of state said, concluding that in Africa, “demographic dynamics similar to Guinea’s are far from being an exception.”
“But even in other countries or demographics, under the same circumstances, they question the critical importance of youth in building a better future in a sustainable way,” he stressed.
The President of Guinea added that it would be “interesting” to hold a “youth meeting” of the organization before the summit of heads of state and government of the CPLP.
“An event that will bring us a youthful, ambitious and innovative vision of young entrepreneurs in the most important sectors of our future,” he explained.
Sissoko Embalo went on to defend the importance of youth, emphasizing that “the agenda for building a future of peace, prosperity and a life of dignity for its peoples has been delivered as a priority investment in youth to capitalize on the demographic dividend it represents.”
“In fact, this is the way forward,” he said.
“I believe I can state and state that the political focus on youth in favor of sustainable development is a brand of CPLP to be considered in the future,” he concluded.
