Brazil’s Famalican footballer Otavio Ataide revealed on Tuesday that he had received racist abuse on his social media following Sunday’s game against Sporting CP in the Portuguese football league.
“Day 27.08.2023 [no domingo]Shortly after the game between Sporting CP and Famalican, I was seriously insulted on a social network. Fans of the team we just met sent me racist and xenophobic messages,” the 21-year-old center wrote on his Instagram page.
In Lisbon, in the match of the third round of the First League of Portugal, Sporting beat Famalican with a score of 1:0.
“I am very proud of the color of my skin and the country I come from. My character and my professionalism were formed in the place where I was born and raised. In the middle of the 21st century, with all these years of fighting for equality, we are still seeing scenarios of racism. Recently, there was an episode with Vinicius Jr. that shook the world, and even so, it seems that some people still do not understand that we are all are the same.
In the same outlet, a player with the Minho badge hired this season posted images of the messages they received.
