Christmas in Braga: six events not to be missed this month

For many, Christmas is a special time that, despite usually cooler temperatures, epitomizes warmth. This is a time of magic, fantasy, a time to feel like children again, regardless of age. From kids to adults, there is always something new and charming to experience this holiday season. This is the season for sharing the memories we create with family and friends, sparkling lights, welcoming scents, songs that soothe our souls. OUR city ​​of Braga, who dresses up for Christmas every year, has prepared for this year a Christmas illuminated by the brightness of the season, filled with colors, joy and human warmth. This is an invitation to visit the city of light, the doors of which are open to you. Enter the magical world of Christmas.

1. Christmas market


This is big news this year in the city of Braga. The Christmas market will fill the municipal square with movement, creativity and surprises. This market aims to promote and popularize artisans, artists and local producers. Therefore, this is the right place to find the best Christmas gifts – special ones, filled with symbolism. Free admission. The market is open from 10:00 to 19:00 (Monday to Thursday and Sunday) and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 22:00. On December 24, the Braga Christmas Market will be open from 10:00 to 14:00.

2. Christmas Parade


It’s definitely on the agenda! The inhabitants of Braga and those who visit the city at this time of the year experience the real magic of Christmas on the streets of the historic center of Braga. This year the parade is scheduled for the 18th (departs at 4pm from Avenida Central) and over 700 participants are expected to face imaginary Christmas characters – elves, elves, nutcrackers, reindeer… and of course Santa Claus and your sleigh. ! This journey through the enchanted world promises a lot of joy, energy and inspiration. Trust us: it’s a must!

3. Small banana tree


Who knows, he knows. A trip to Bananeiro in Braga, precisely on the afternoon/evening of December 24th, is a tradition that cannot be broken. A few hours before Christmas, everyone prepares with banana and nutmeg wine. Take advantage of the pilgrimage to wish you happy holidays. Now imagine a banana tree for kids! Without alcohol, of course, and in the morning, at 10:30, on the Municipal Square.

4. Living bed Priscos


It is also part of the Christmas tradition in the city, which is planned every year. The tradition of the nativity scene is supported by live recreation in the parish of Prisk and takes us on a journey through time. It is the largest living nativity scene in Europe and attracts visitors from all over the country and neighboring Spain. This year, the legendary nativity scene will last until January 15th.

5. Ice rink


The Altice Forum Park in Braga puts the most fearless to the test and invites children and adults to show off their skating skills. The skating rink is open on weekends (from 10:00 to 20:00) and on weekdays (from 16:00 to 22:00). Tickets are for 20 minutes of solo skating and cost 6 euros. There are tickets for family skiing for 5 euros per person. Outside of the park, there are also activities such as bumper cars, carousels, experience simulators, and twitter – at a price of €3 per chip or €5 for two.

6. Winter travel among the most beautiful sounds of music


This cycle of concerts prepared by the Sinfonietta de Braga will take place on 16 (Christmas suit), 23 (Endless love) and December 29 (Liturgy of the Birds – Dedication to Olivier Messiaen) and on the 3rd day (Time travel) and January 6 (Cold December…), always at 19:00, in the Medieval Hall of the University of Mignot, a space of acoustic and stage versatility. This is the second edition of the “Winter Journey” cycle, a journey that is a standard in the field of erudite art.

Concert at the end of the year

The city of the archbishops says goodbye to 2022 and starts 2023 with a solidarity initiative that returns in full to CERCI Braga (tickets are sold for 3 euros for a standing audience and 5 euros for a VIP audience). The concert, which promises to be unforgettable, will take place at the Altice Forum Braga on December 31st and will be headlined by Tony Carreira. The Braga “Bolha” band and DJ Pedro Simões will also take part in this New Year’s event. In addition to concerts, you will have access to an ice rink and outdoor entertainment. The party promises to be explosive!
