The Judicial Police (PJ) detained a man on suspicion of skilled fraud and forgery, causing injuries to several victims totaling two million euros, police announced on Wednesday.
According to PJ, the 42-year-old man, who operated primarily in the Central Region, persuaded the victims to “allocate large sums of money for alleged investments in financial applications that provide high interest rates.”
“Some are signing purported contracts but for non-existent investments,” the police added.
According to the JV, the suspect took advantage of his professional knowledge as an insurance broker and resorted to “building friendly ties with the victims” to convince them.
The 42-year-old man was detained by the SP through the Board of Directors of the Center in accordance with an arrest warrant issued by the Central Department of Investigations and Criminal Penalties (DIAP) of Coimbra.
As part of the investigation, the police seized “several documents used in the commission of crimes and identified the presence of several victims, mainly in the central region of the country”, who will be defrauded of an amount close to two million euros. .
The detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation about the application of a measure of coercion.
