The search for a 40-year-old man who went missing at sea on Wednesday at Lavadores Beach in Gaia, in the Porto area, resumed this Thursday at around 8:00 am, using a jet ski and ground facilities.
In a conversation with Lusa, a representative of the National Maritime Administration (ANM) explained that a drone of the Maritime Police of Aveiro will also operate during the day.
The searches were attended by members of the Maritime Police Captains Douro and Aveiro, the firefighters of Sapadores Gaia and the rescue station of the Foz do Douro Shipwrecked Institute.
According to the captain’s assistant Douro, the man disappeared after going to the toilet in disrespect for the red flag.
The alarm was raised at 5:45 p.m. after the man “ran over rocks and disappeared,” he told Luza.
“At first the lifeguard went overboard, but she also became a victim of strong waves and ended up hitting the rocks, suffered minor leg injuries and was taken to the hospital,” he added.
On Wednesday, the searches ended around 20:00, at sunset.
