PSD Vice President António Leitan Amaru, in statements to journalists, reacted to the measures announced on Wednesday evening by PS General Secretary and Prime Minister António Costa in a speech at the Socialist Academy, the party’s “tenant” in Évora. .

“It seems clear that the government is reacting to the SDP: it is copying, but copying badly, the country,” he criticized.

According to the leader of the Social Democrats, the Prime Minister “has presented nothing but patches and is incapable of a structural response”, contrary to what he defended as the SDP’s proposals.

Leitan Amaru emphasized that it was the SDP who first proposed over a year ago the top IRS rate of 15% for young people under 35, which he considers more beneficial than the solution now proposed by the Government (and which comes through reducing the reduction of this tax in the early years work).

“The government still doesn’t want to give back what the state is charging more for inflation,” he criticized, expressing regret that the executive branch “continues to whistle to the side” on the SDP’s proposal to lower the IRS at all levels (except the last one). already this year, with a total value of 1,200 million euros, or “failed” proposals for exemption from tax on the purchase of the first home.

“These are structural changes and they will make a difference. To be honest, eight years later, it’s heartbreaking to see that António Costa and PS don’t have a structured response that they could give to the Portuguese,” he said.
