UEFA announced this Saturday that before the start of every national team and club game until September 21, a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the victims of the earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday.
“Thoughts about European football are with the people of Morocco in these difficult times. The victims of the tragic earthquake will be remembered in all national team games and club competitions,” the organization said in a statement.
The earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday evening has already killed more than a thousand people and injured 1,200 others, and caused widespread damage to the Marrakech region, an important tourist destination in Morocco.
The earthquake, whose epicenter was recorded in the city of Isis, 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh, was felt in Portugal and Spain, reaching a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale, according to the National Institute of Geophysics of Marrakech. .
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.8.
