A patrol boat of the Spanish Civil Guard rammed a boat heading to Spain on Sunday. There were four people inside the small boat, one of whom capsized as a result of the accident.
According to El Pais, The Civil Guard prevented a boat with four migrants on board from entering Melilla. The small vessel intended to reach the city’s coast, but the Maritime Service interrupted the attempt by passing over the small vessel.
A video circulated on social media shows the chase, with the Guardia Civil vessel making several maneuvers before passing over the boat.
Second GuardianOne of the four crew members fell out of the small vessel.
Police said there were no reports of injuries and determined the migrants on the boat were attempting to enter Spain illegally.
On Tuesday, Rodas Solidárias de Mellile joined rights groups from Morocco and Spain to call for an investigation. In a statement, the group asked for “detailed explanations” of the Civil Guard’s actions.
To the news agency Europe Presss, a source in the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the issue of initiating any internal investigation into the incident is not yet being considered.
