A seven-year-old boy from the municipality of Tondela, who was struck by lightning in the Caramulo mountains on Sunday, was discharged from the children’s hospital of Coimbra this Monday afternoon, a source at the hospital told the Lusa agency.
According to the Communication and Information Department of the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra, the child was discharged home at around 14:45.
“He has always been hemodynamically stable, without complications. Within 48 hours he will come to the pediatric surgeon’s office for re-evaluation of the burns,” the source said.
The 41-year-old father, who was with his child under a tree, is still under observation at the Tondela-Viseu hospital center.
The victim has 1st and 2nd degree burns associated with electrical shock and is “conscious, hemodynamically stable and without signs of cardiac injury.”
“Favourable developments are expected with the possibility of discharge in the short term,” the Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu communications office told the Lusa news agency.
A man and his son were injured after they were struck by lightning during a thunderstorm in the town of Cadraço, Tondela municipality, on Sunday afternoon, a civil protection source told Lusa.
According to the same source, both victims attended a car race in Rampa do Caramulo, Guardan parish, Viseu district, and were struck by lightning while hiding under a tree.
