The western and central Azores group will be under a yellow warning on Thursday due to a forecast of heavy rain caused by the passage of Hurricane Margot, which is not expected to cross the archipelago, according to IPMA.
In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) said that while the tropical cyclone is not expected to cross the archipelago, its impact could be felt in the form of rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday in the western part of the island. (Flores and Corvo) and central (Faial, Pico, Terceira, Graciosa and Sao Jorge) groups.
Following this forecast, IPMA has issued a yellow warning for these seven islands from 00:00 to 09:00 on Thursday.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.
Hurricane Margot (Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale), named by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), was located about 1,274 kilometers southwest of Flores Island at 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to IPMA.
