More than 2,100 pharmacies have already joined the vaccination campaign against covid-19 and influenza.

More than 2,100 pharmacies have already joined the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 and influenza, covering 92% of the country’s municipalities, according to the National Association of Pharmacies, adding that those over 60 years of age will be eligible for vaccination.

Vaccinations against influenza and Covid-19 are due to begin on September 29 as part of the Autumn-Winter 2023 Seasonal Vaccination Campaign, with pharmacies able to administer both vaccines at the same time.

The President of the National Pharmaceutical Association (ANF), Ema Paulino, told Lusa this Wednesday that more than 2,100 pharmacies have already been registered, but expressed the hope that by the time the official list of participating pharmacies is published, 2,200 will reach 2,200 and ensure nationwide coverage, with at least one pharmacy in every municipality in the country.

Regarding the population eligible for vaccination in pharmacies, Ema Paulino said that these will be citizens over 60 years of age who have not received other vaccines for less than 14 days, as defined by the general rule of the General Directorate of Health, which encourages this interval between the administration of the vaccine against Covid-19 and other vaccines.

According to Ema Paulino, pharmacies are already accepting pre-registration for vaccines, and people are already coming to these facilities and saying they want to get vaccinated.

Pharmacies are already booking appointments as the scheduling platform is already live, but they will only receive vaccines the week vaccinations begin, despite the fact that “the country already has a significant number of vaccines in a central warehouse that will be ready for use.” capable of entering this distribution network,” he said.

Regarding the number of vaccines that pharmacies will receive, the ANF President said that, taking into account the population over 60 years of age and the range of coverage rates, it is estimated that there could be between 1.7 and 2.3 million flu vaccines and the same number of Covid vaccines -19.

“It is estimated that at the level of people under 60 years of age [o número de vacinas} possam ser aproximadamente 500 mil vacinas para a gripe e 500 mil vacinas para a covid-19″, referiu.
