Beth Matthews, 23, with Down syndrome, will walk the show at London Fashion Week and despite being described by her mother as “quite shy”, she is “enthusiastic” about the challenge.
“I’m very excited about this show. I hope they let me keep the dress,” she told the BBC.
Having entered the world of fashion, the young woman has already appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine and was invited to walk the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival.
The model’s mother, Fiona, said that the young woman gained more confidence thanks to nudity. He also adds that his daughter’s fame could help other people with Down syndrome by realizing “that someone like Beth has an incredible life.”
The model will be shown at London Fashion Week, as well as at events in Paris, New York and Milan, one of the most important fashion events. However, criticism has increased in recent years as most people accuse models of not being representative and having unrealistic beauty standards.
Fiona also added that the young woman is “not a diva.” “Her life hasn’t changed, it’s just become more interesting,” he said. Beth admits that she “loves photo shoots and hair and makeup.”
