Sintra school closes three changing rooms after Legionella found in water

Physical education students at the Escola Básica e Secundária de Gama Barros in Casem (Sintra) are outfitting themselves at home as the changing rooms are closed. The closure comes after Legionella bacteria was discovered in the gym’s waters in March last year.

The Sintra City Council confirms the closure: “During a regular inspection carried out by the Sintra City Council, the presence of Legionella was discovered in the pavilion changing rooms.”

The municipality adds that “the school was not closed, and the use of the three locker rooms in the pavilion was prohibited.” The equipment remains closed as the chamber is currently undergoing renovations.
