The PSD/CDS coalition has signed a parliamentary protection agreement with the PAN to govern Madeira, the publication reports RTP. Miguel Albuquerque, leader of the Social Democrats, is expected to present the formula on Tuesday.
The coalition won regional elections on Sunday night but managed to elect only 23 deputies, one short of an absolute majority. The CDU, IL, PAN and BE managed to elect one.
At the end of the evening, both the Liberals and the PAP demonstrated their willingness to reach an agreement. “We do not refuse to communicate with anyone, and our doors will always be open for this,” said Nuno Morna, a candidate from Illinois.
PAN, which will win the race, also expressed its intention to support the PSD/CDS coalition. “All doors are open,” said party candidate Monica Freitas.
Even though Miguel Albuquerque initially failed to obtain an absolute majority, he explained that he was able to form a government and that if this did not happen, he would resign, as he had already promised.
Both the Madeira leader and Luis Montenegro, president of the PSD, made it clear that the decision did not affect Chegu – an option that Andre Ventura also rejected.
