The President of Mozambique sacks the Deputy Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources

The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, this Thursday dismissed Cecilia Chamutota from the position of Deputy Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources and appointed her Secretary of State for the Province of Sofala, according to a statement by the President of the Republic.

The note did not provide reasons for the dismissal of Cecilia Chamutota or the appointment of a new deputy minister of public works, housing and water resources.

In his new position as secretary of state of the Sofala province in central Mozambique, Chamutota will replace Stela Pinto Novo Zeka, who was dismissed from her post on Tuesday by the head of state.

Filipe Nyusi did not give a reason for the removal of Stella Pinto Novo Zeca, but the politician is a candidate for the post of mayor of Beira, the capital of Sofala, in the municipal elections on October 11 from the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo). , the party in power. .

The Center for Public Integrity (CIP), a Mozambican non-governmental organization (NGO), has criticized Stela Pinto Novo Zeca’s candidacy for mayor while she was still serving as Secretary of State, deeming it illegal.
