Two Portuguese were killed and one was injured in a bus accident on Tuesday evening in the Venice region of north-eastern Italy, which killed 21 people, a Foreign Ministry source told Lusa this Wednesday.
“Two Portuguese citizens have been confirmed dead and one injured in a bus accident in the city of Venice,” an official source in Portuguese diplomacy said.
The Foreign Ministry also emphasized that “they regret what happened and are monitoring the situation through the Portuguese Embassy in Rome.”
Late on Wednesday evening, the mayor of Venice announced, according to Italian media, the citizenship of all the victims of the bus accident: nine Ukrainians, four Romanians, three Germans, two Portuguese, one Italian. [o motorista]Croatian and South African.
Authorities in Venice today asked the Italian government to declare three days of mourning in the region after the death of 21 people on a bus that fell from a viaduct.
In addition to the 21 confirmed deaths, there are at least 15 injured.
The passengers on the bus were mostly young foreign tourists returning to Venice from a nearby campsite.
The vehicle was an electric bus that caught fire after falling from a height of about 15 meters, damaging the viaduct’s protection.
