The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the yellow warning until 23:00 Monday due to the heat in the areas of Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon and Santarem.
In the districts of Aveiro and Setúbal, the yellow warning due to the persistence of very high maximum temperatures will only be in effect until 23:00 this Sunday.
In Madeira and Porto Santo, an orange warning remains in force until 11pm this Sunday due to the heat wave, the second most severe on a scale of three, which then drops to yellow until 6pm Monday.
An orange warning is issued by the IPMA when there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation, and a yellow warning is issued when there is a risk for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
This Sunday, IPMA forecasts partly cloudy skies with a slight drop in temperatures along the Northern and Central coasts and a slight rise in maximum temperatures in the Southern region.
Forecasts show that minimum temperatures will range from 13°C (Braga) to 22°C (Portalegre) and maximum temperatures will range from 28°C (Viana do Castelo and Guarda) to 36°C (Santarem, Setúbal and Sines ).
