School workers are on strike today for higher wages

Non-teaching school workers will go on strike this Monday to demand higher wages, with many schools expected to close again, similar to what happened last Friday with the teachers’ strike.

The initiative this Monday came from the National Union of Education Workers (Sinape), which has been warning since 2010 of “the devaluation of the salaries of these education professionals.”

In the strike notice, Sinape states that these professionals “have seen their salaries ‘swallowed’ by the national minimum wage, without restructuring their careers.”

The strike comes three days after a strike by teachers and educators called by the platform of nine trade union organizations of which Sinape is a member, as well as the National Federation of Education (FNE) and the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof).

According to a report published by the platform on Friday afternoon, more than 80% took part in the strike and “about 90% of schools” were left without classes.

Today’s strike is the third of the current school year, which began less than a month ago and the first few days included a week-long strike called by the Union of All Education Professionals (STOP) targeting teachers and staff. teaching.
