On Tuesday, a Braga court sentenced a PNP security guard to a fine of 4,500 euros who, in July 2020, attacked his immediate commander with his hands and feet in the parking lot of a gym in that city.
The 46-year-old defendant was also ordered to pay compensation in the amount of two thousand euros for moral damages.
The court charged him with causing bodily harm.
At the time of the events, the accused and the victim were at the GNR station in Prado, municipality of Vila Verde, and they had a disagreement regarding the duty schedule.
On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly attacked his commander in the parking lot of a gym in Braga, grabbed him by the neck, pushed him to the ground and punched and kicked him in various parts of his body.
The attacks stopped only due to the intervention of the accused’s wife.
At trial, the defendant began by denying the attacks, saying that he was simply defending himself against possible aggression from his commander.
He then admitted to punching and kicking him twice.
However, the court did not prove the alleged aggression on the part of the commander and found the defendant guilty, finding that he acted with a high degree of illegality and direct intent.
In favor of the defendant, the judge took into account the lack of a criminal record, as well as the social and professional background of the defendant.
Taking all the circumstances into account, he sentenced him to a 300-day fine at the rate of 15 euros per day.
