Midfielder Alan Varela impressed Barcelona’s technical team in their recent 1-0 Champions League win over Porto, the Spanish press reported on Wednesday.
The player, signed by the Dragons from Boca Juniors for eight million euros, made a good impression in the Dragons’ game against the Catalans and has since been monitored more regularly.
According to the Spanish press, the midfielder is already one of the three players identified by Barca. In addition to Varela, the list includes Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen attacking midfielder) and Arthur Vermeeren (Antwerp defensive midfielder).
Varela was highly praised and was even reminded that as a child he attended Barcelona’s school in Argentina and then played for Boca Juniors. The news also states that this is when the midfielder acquired the “Barça style”.
