Madeira is under an orange warning due to heavy rain, wind and rough seas

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which forecasts bad weather until Sunday, the Madeira archipelago will be under an orange warning for heavy rain, wind and rough seas from 12:00 on Saturday.

On the south coast, a warning for persistent rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms, is in place from 12:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, during which time it will also be in force on the north coast.

The IPMA has also issued orange warnings for strong winds on the north coast with gusts of up to 100 km/h, especially in the western part, from 18:00 on Saturday to 00:00 on Sunday, as well as rough seas from 21:00 on Saturday and At 00:00 on Sunday, a swell of between five and 6.5 meters is forecast from the northwest, reaching a maximum height of 11 metres.

The island of Porto Santo will be at a yellow sea warning level from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday before changing to orange until 12pm on Sunday.

The IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for periods of rain or showers in Porto Santo from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday, as well as strong winds with gusts of up to 90km/h until 6pm. I’m on Sunday. .

The mountainous areas of Madeira Island will be under an orange warning for heavy rain from 12:00 to 18:00 on Saturday and for very strong winds with gusts of up to 120 km/h from 18:00 on Saturday to 00:00. :00 on Sunday.

An orange warning – the second most severe on a scale of three – is issued whenever a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” occurs, and a yellow warning occurs when a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
