Farense condemns ‘ambush’ and attacks on fans after Lenc Villaverdense game

This Sunday, Farense reported that its fans had been the target of “ambushes” and attacks, with two people requiring hospitalization, following a game against Lanc Villaverdense in the Portuguese Cup. “The suspected assailants fled in a car,” a source in the NDP said, adding that there are currently four suspects, but “there is still no certainty” as the investigation continues.

In a statement, the League One club said “with deep horror” that its fans had been “brutally attacked” after the end of the third round match of the tournament, held in Vila Verde, in the Braga region. the Algarve team lost (3-2).

“About half an hour after the end of the game, in the vicinity of the municipal stadium of Cruz do Regengo, a group of Farense fans, heading to the bus that would take them back to Faro, were ambushed by a group of approximately 20-30 elements with their faces covered and armed with belts, sticks and other accessories brutally attacked them,” said a note published by the Faro club.

According to Farense, the attacking fans were treated at the scene by ambulance crews supported by the Algarve medical team, and two people were taken to hospital for necessary tests.

These “deplorable, violent and cowardly acts” were reported to the authorities present at the scene, namely the GNR, which “prepared a competent report on the incident, starting an investigation process that SC Farense will monitor as an assistant,” adds the Algarve emblem.

Given the “seriousness of what happened,” Farense emphasizes that “this season he will make countless trips to clubs in the vicinity of the city of Braga,” appealing to the competent structures and authorities to “quickly identify and punish the aggressors in an exemplary manner.” “

Lenc Villaverdense of the II League beat first division Farense 3-2 at home to reach the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup.

Lenio (54 minutes), João Caiado (87) and Bruno Silva (90+1) scored for the bottom-placed Liga II side, which reached the fourth round of the Cup for the second time in a row, along with Talocha (90+3) and Bruno Duarte (90+8, penalty) for reduction.
