This Sunday, the captain of the port of Funchal extended the warning of serious sea disturbances until 6:00 am on Monday, updating a series of recommendations for the maritime community and the population in general.
The warning was initially issued until 6:00 am on Friday and then extended several times based on information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) about the general weather situation along the Madeira seafront.
The northern coast of Madeira is under an orange warning (the second most severe on a scale of three) for sea disturbances until 9pm this Sunday, before changing to yellow until 9am on Monday.
The captain of the port of Funchal indicates in the document that waves on the northern coast can reach 6.5 meters, while on the southern coast they should not exceed 3.5 meters.
It recommends that shipowners and shipowners strengthen berths and maintain close surveillance of moored and anchored vessels.
Other recommendations: Avoid walking in areas exposed to sea waves, and do not fish near rocks or rocky areas that are frequently exposed to breaking waves.
