The body of Coimbra businessman Mario Oliveira, found in a pit in a state of advanced decomposition two months after his disappearance, has already been returned to his family, who were not allowed to be cremated as he wanted because he had committed the crime of murder.
“In cases of murder, it is advisable not to cremate, because at any moment the body can be exhumed for further forensic examination,” explained Duarte Nuno Vieira, a forensic expert, in an interview CM. “The decision is made by the coroner in conjunction with the prosecutor’s office,” he said.
The restaurant businessman has been missing for two months. The family alerted authorities on August 19. The 57-year-old victim’s car was found a few days later with a broken window in a pine forest in Senhor da Serra, in Miranda do Corvo. His body was only found on October 4 in a hole in a house in Chas, Miranda do Corvo, where lived 36-year-old Giovani Gomes, who was arrested that day by the PS as a suspect in the crime.
