A meeting between the Ministry of Health and medical unions scheduled for Wednesday was canceled on Tuesday at the request of the government, a union source told Lusa.
The secretary-general of the Independent Union of Doctors (SIM), João Roque da Cunha, told Lusa that the meeting had been canceled at around 9 p.m.
The announcement came about three hours after Health Minister Manuel Pizarro assured parliament that talks with medical unions would continue, stressing that he had not yet given up hope of reaching an agreement.
Pizarro’s statements to parliament came hours after the prime minister announced his resignation after the state ministry said he was the subject of an independent Supreme Court investigation into the lithium and hydrogen projects.
The latest meeting between the Health Ministry and doctors’ unions ended without an agreement on Saturday and negotiations will resume on Wednesday.
