The PNR detained five people in Barcelos as part of an investigation on suspicion of forgery of documents, false certificates and computer falsification related to a dog vaccination record, the force announced this Thursday.
In a statement, GNR said the operation resulted in 32 search warrants being carried out on houses and 39 searches on vehicles in the areas of Braga, Lisbon and Vila Real.
The goal was to collect traces and items related to the crimes under investigation.
A police source explained to Lusa that these are fake documents that will be given to hunters in exchange for a certain amount of money, stating that their dogs have received the rabies vaccine.
Hunters would be interested in this scheme because they believe the vaccine affects dogs’ sense of smell, thereby reducing their ability to hunt.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of €53,099, 348 dog vaccine bulletins, 109 rabies vaccine ampoules, 540 medical stickers, 23 cell phones, ten laptop computers, three hard drives, a firearm, a revolver and various documents. related to veterinary medical activities and crimes under investigation.
Five detainees, ranging in age from 21 to 70 years old, have been recognized as defendants and will appear in court for enforcement action.
The investigation was carried out by GNR’s Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA).
